Fishing in Lake Pontchartrain was very good in July, and I expect it to get better in August. More sheepshead and drum will make their way into the lake this month and the speckled trout will be close with the exception of the full moon. During a full moon we notice a decrease in trout on our boats. Most of the trips this month we have been targeting white trout or specks early, then working deep passes like Rigolets Pass or Chef Pass for bull reds and black drum. Some of our catches may look small in the pictures from July, but what you don’t see is all the bull reds and huge drum that were caught and released. Customers have been asking for big fish and we have been delivering. I am very excited for Fall 2022. I think the fishing in Lake Borgne, Lake Pontchartrain, and Rigolets will be incredible September through December.
