December 2023 Fishing Report

Spring is almost booked up as we approach the new year. 2023 is ending with great fishing for New Orleans Fishing Charters, due to the mild winter, and extremely clean, salty water. Redfish have made a strong comeback. I’m excited to see the big schools of 15” – 17” redfish finally showing up after being gone for the last two years. This means Spring should offer great opportunity for catching many reds in the Biloxi Marsh and Lake Borgne. Speckled trout fishing is fair at the moment. Still plenty of shrimp in the Lake Pontchartrain area, so the trout are scattered. Typically when the fall trout run is like this, the Spring run will be incredible since the trout are not schooled up, getting hammered by fishermen everyday in the Fall. Fast forward to Spring (March – May) they’ll be schooled up, staging at the bridges in Lake Pontchartrain waiting for the water temperature to trigger the spawn. The last two months have seen big catches of sheepshead, redfish, trout, and black drum. I couldn’t be happier with the results of every trip that has been run. I have been blessed to have so many great customers turn into friends and return several times a year for multi-day trips.

Spring will be here before long. With the Spring calendar almost halfway booked already, I would suggest to anyone shopping for a guide service to give me a call. I’ll give you an honest report of how the fishing is currently, or how I think it will be for the timeframe you’re interested in. There are many New Orleans Fishing Charters to choose from. Victory Bay Charters has been operating as a full time guide service since 2018. A look back through all of our social media, and fishing reports will show that our wonderful customers have been catching more than a few for the last 6 years. Looking forward to 2024 and the adventures to come with it.

Merry Christmas and Happy New year from Captain Drake Morvant and Family.
