boy holding a medium size redfish on lake

March 2020 New Orleans Fishing

March has offered unusually warm weather this year. With several rivers that feed our estuary being at, or near flood stage, Speckled Trout fishing has slowed some. Plenty of muddy water in the area. Redfish don’t mind it though. There is no shortage of Redfish this year. Many trips this month we saw dozens and dozens of them on the low water days. The trick to catching them has been making long-distance casts, throwing shrimp under a cork. There are some trout being caught in the local lakes, as of mid-month. Though, the crowds have gotten word, so the few local areas holding fish are being hit hard. I always prefer to operate far from the crowds, when possible.
